Customised licence plate, on screen

We’ve had our customised licence plate “TRIPNG” for over a year. It wasn’t until today that I realised that I can customise the Tesla to make it also appear on screen. I’ve known about the ability to change the car colour or wrap, but missed seeing the licence plate.

Limitations:

  1. It only appears on the rear of the vehicle, not the front.
  2. It doesn’t appear on the image of the car in the mobile app.
  3. It won’t change the physical licence plate, which you might want to do when passing a speed camera 😉.

Software updates require a wifi connection, and won’t download via the car’s own cellular connection. That’s a frustration when we’re on the road for weeks, unable to connect the car to a wifi network. I tried connecting it overnight to the wifi of my phone, but that just seemed to drain gigabytes of data without actually getting a software update.

It’s the little, geeky things 😉.

  1. Ooh I didn't know this either! Also I have heard others saying they've contacted Tesla and had them push the software update over the cellular connection if they don't have access to wifi

  2. Also while I like the idea of automatically installing the updates, as we all know, it bricks the car while it's doing it. It would be good to specify a time window that it can use to automatically install the updates I.e not start it just before you usually head to work!

    1. Stephen Sizer Yeah, I just want the car connected so it can notify me when there’s an update available. I prefer to manually trigger the actual installation.

I had a problem downloading an update a couple of updates ago. I contacted Tesla via the app, they were great and tried a few things. Even checking when I next needed to go out. Then they said they will try pushing the update via cellular and it went through ok. So it can be done.
