Goodbye, Archie

Today we said goodbye to Archie, our much-loved cat.
Archie was a kitten when some of our kids were still kids. He migrated with us from our old home in Saratoga, NSW, to our new place in Emerald, Victoria, back in 2023 — down the Hume Highway, with an overnight stop in Holbrook and a few "Pet Mode Enabled" stops along the way.
He's been a big part of our lives, and of our whole relocation — waiting for us after every road trip. He "helped" with meals, computer work, packing, and assembling bits and pieces for our trips. He'd play innocent right up until we turned our backs on an uncovered plate. And he could smell and hear a "bachelor's handbag" from the other end of the house — he'd come running the moment anyone said "chicken".
Yesterday he was just a little off. Today at the vet he unexpectedly and suddenly went downhill — a suspected blood clot, poor circulation and a liver issue, then paralysis in his back legs. We made the hard decision to let him go rather than have him suffer. We nuzzled and held him to the end, and shed a lot of tears.
We'll miss you, Archie. Thank you for spending time with us.
