Can you help my family member into their first EV?

One of our (adult) kids is ready to go electric for the first time, and a used Tesla Model Y is top of their wish list. So, before they wade through the car yards, I thought I'd ask the people most likely to own a good one — you lot.

If you're upgrading your Model Y at Tesla soon, here's an idea that might suit us both: we'll pay you $3,000 more than Tesla's trade-in quote, and we're in no rush — happy to wait until your new car's delivery day to take it off your hands. You come out ahead of the trade-in, and someone in our family gets a well-loved first EV.

We've been on your side of this. When we traded in our old Model 3, the Tesla quote was at least $5,000 less than we reckon we'd have got selling it privately — but a private sale meant strangers, test drives and time we didn't have, so we took the easy option. That stung a little.

What we're after: a Model Y at the cheaper end, ideally under 100,000 km. 2023 or later. RWD standard range is fine.

    Define a years battery warranty left?

    They are not coming upto 7 years in age. So it comes down to the max km on the car, to make it a years battery warranty

      You're right, they're all under four years old and the battery's covered for 8 years (160,000 km) regardless, so warranty isn't really the filter — I've updated the post to suit. What we're actually after is just a clean, well-looked-after one at the cheaper end, ideally under 100,000 km. RWD standard range is fine.

        Karl Jensen Yeah, the Model 3 has big storage for that type of car. We used ours for several moves. But the Model Y is next level for access through the boot.
