A rainy 'sunny holiday' at Seal Rocks

NSW Central Coast + Seal Rocks 2025

May 19-22: We arrived at Reflections Seal Rocks. Francis joked at reception “We’re here for our sunny holiday” as the rain continued to belt down. It rained most of the time we were there.

The room key mocked us with the label “Life is better outside”. But we made the most of it. We played a few rounds of “brain fart” which was frustrating and fun.

I drove 3km down the road to Treachery Camp to pick up Amber. It takes a long time to drive along a road that bad.

On the first night, we drove to the closest open dinner venue: The Palms Bistro, Smiths Lake. The satay veg curry was yum and great value.

Another night, Fran cooked up a delicious mushroom meal for her mother in law! And sent her home with the leftovers 😉.

We did a few days trips out, including a snippet of sun. Stay tuned for those.

Charging

Given its isolation, we checked before we booked that we could charge at the cabin. Our hosts kindly allowed us to do so, and gave us a cabin with easy access for Mum’s walker. Thank you. On our way back from dinner the first night, the car warned us that we needed to have a charging option.

The mobile charging connector didn’t quite reach the car from the cabin. So, we used a heavy duty extension cord that we carry with us, for situations like this. It handles high current, but we have to ensure that it’s not coiled (which adds resistance and heat). We also check that the power point doesn’t overheat, since some power points aren’t correctly wired for high current. All good, no problem. This gave us more charge than we needed for a few day trips and to leave with 100%.

  1. Have you done a light show with the new car ? Wondering how it looks with the light bars, ambient lighting and the rear seats going up and down :)

    1. Paul Johnston I’ve done the light show in our new car once in Wagga, but I was watching our host’s reaction more than the car. I think the ambient light changed colours, but I don’t think the seats moved 🤔.

  2. I have stayed at Treachery and the road in was the worst I’ve ever been on. My car was charged at the camp ground laundry overnight.
