Marvin the mower draws a tourist crowd

It seems that Marvin (our Mammotion robot mower) is so famous that the paparazzi stop to take photos of him at work. This time, it was a group of tourists walking past, from Puffing Billy.

Marvin carved his signature parallel lines in our lawn. I’ve recently set it to 35° from north, aligning all the sections of our lawn. It’s the little things 😉.

A couple of weeks ago, I turned around the blades on his rotors. This is the only service I’ve had to do since purchase, about 15 months ago. Now that it’s spring again, the grass is growing fast. Marvin is mowing every week. Fully electric, no fumes or noise.

  2. That’s an interesting beast. I’ve often wondered if I could sell off the ride-on & go for an automated mower. There’s so many out there, how do you rate yours?

    1. Peter Hofland Hi 👋. I’ve been very happy with ours. Marvin has run reliably for 15 months on our 1500m² of lawn. It’s now also doing a section of our neighbour’s lawn. The only issue has been it occasionally getting stuck in a ditch or straddling a half submerged round sleeper, which has unfortunately happened most when we’ve remote initiated mowing while away on holiday. Very thankful for our neighbour, Anne, rescuing Marvin several times.

    2. I picked ours (Mammotion Luba AWD 3000) because it doesn’t require installing a perimeter wire, and copes well with slopes. I mapped out sections of our lawn once, and now I just tell it which sections to mow. They now have a few cheaper models for smaller lawns, and other brands have improved their offerings.

  3. I miss my Husquarvana auto mower I had at previous home. With only a tiny courtyard and the verge (where it wouldn’t be safe to leave it) now we reluctantly sold it when we moved :(

  4. Does it use Lidar like robo vacuum or that wire territory marking buried underneath?

    1. Daniel Laurence Hi 👋. No wires under the lawn. I just drove it around sections of my yard once. Then it knows the borders. Also uses vision to detect obstacles.
