    Really important that commercial transport becomes electrified asap. The tech keeps improving and the prices keep dropping. Running costs are so much cheaper.

    Perhaps not so great for interstate use due to lack of high speed charging infrastructure but so good for inner city travel and an excellent way to keep pollution down.

      Just because something isn’t a 100% solution to every use case doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.

        So currently they are good for 400km trips. Thats a start.

        Battery swap technology is main stream in China.

        Mobile charging lanes are being trialled in Europe.

        If you wait for it to be perfect you are playing catch up.

        Stephen Ning 400k not a start it's just uncompetitive you would need to stop twice on the way to Sydney a diesel truck will beat you t here by 2 to 3 hours and have more freight on

        I presume you mean to where you are.

        With trucks with a 400km range tha means all the destinations within that range would get cheaper to deliver to….. a start.

        But if you want a solution where a truck can drive the entire length and breadth of the country without stopping then you are correct, they aren’t there yet.

        Stephen Ning No they won't be cheaper if you are paying 400k for an EV truck instead of 200k for a diesel the interest on the extra 200k will pay for a fair chunk of your fuel bill , then can start on depreciation

      Michael Loucas I reckon they will have a curfew exemption too, so they’ll be able to operate where diesel trucks can’t. Although if rubbish trucks go electric, I won’t be woken up to do the dash of shame when I forget to put my bins out

        Anthony Long in what way is it cheaper? It carries less weight, has a limited range of under 500 km, and doesn’t meet the needs of long-haul trucking. It just doesn’t make sense for the trucking industry.

        Not all trucks are long haul.

        Man how dumb are you. Must drive a truck for a living hub?

        Maybe consider this...

        You drive less than 500km at a time and tow weight within this vehicles capacity.

        Now... Your current vehicle also does the same job but at significantly higher running costs.

        Fun fact - not all trucks do long haul. These aren’t design to to that at all. These would be perfect for the likes of Woolies or Coles to distribute in Metro areas.

        Adam Heapy why would Coles invest in a fleet of vehicles that depreciate so fast? A used diesel truck holds its value far better. Plus, if a driver forgets to plug in an EV, they can’t deliver and the company loses money. Not to mention the number of chargers that are constantly offline. There’s a reason Tesla’s electric trucks aren’t flying off the shelves.
