Overnight at Best Western Goulburn

Snowy Mountains + Gippsland 2025–26

Overnight stay at Best Western Plus Goulburn, to break up my road trip from my home in Emerald Victoria, to hers in Cessnock NSW.

Really nice motel and staff. Great breakfast.

Charging

Bonus: free EV charging on site. We could have avoided our previous stop in Coolac, altogether, and just charged here overnight at 11kW.

In the morning, when I was packing the car, another Tesla Model Y Juniper pulled up, with a family doing a similar trip to us. I moved my car out of the way, so they could connect. They couldn’t quite get the plug in, so I helped and showed them. When I returned from checking out at reception, I noticed that the family were sitting in the car. As the driver got out, he said “it’s very slow”. I asked if he was staying at the motel. He said no. I explained that this is just a destination charger, which is designed for people staying here, and that he’d be better off using one of the two Tesla Supercharger sites in town.

It reminds me of how very little we knew when we were thinking of buying an EV, over three years ago. I wonder if there’s a comprehensive but simple guide somewhere for newcomers, so they don’t have to trawl through dozens of YouTube videos, like we did in the early days of anticipation.

  1. On your arrival in Cessnock like a lot of HV towns Charging options are limited but Pokolbin has a lot of options and I recommend the new Evie Chargers at Ampol Cameron Park

  3. Good idea for a new owner’s guide. While waiting for delivery of my M3 4 years ago, I read the manual and watched all Tesla Tom (Ludicrous Feed) videos on YouTube. He made everything so easy to understand by showing it on his Tesla. I revisited his road trip videos before my first long trip. This was when charging infrastructure was restricted to a few superchargers on main routes. A lot has changed since then.

    1. Louise Edgley Yes... Superchargers EVERYWHERE now. I could just pass some on my way to Copenhagen, from Amsterdam. I used every third or so I encountered. With a Model S 100D, that's easily doable.
