Why are utes always the aggressive ones?

Snowy Mountains + Gippsland 2025–26

Why does it seem to be utes that are predominantly aggressive on the road? A few unnecessary and dangerous overtakes on my way home through Gippsland. Towards oncoming cars, or a kangaroo.

Wildlife and police also out. A bit busy on the roads today.

Glad to see that the latest software update on the Tesla now shows speed and details now on playback of videos.

    3. Rodney Nixon My speed was limited by the car in front. Overtaking was not yet a smart option, since there was oncoming traffic.

      1. Tesla Tripping overtaking is always an option, they got around you safely, you could’ve overtaken too!

    1. Clayton D'Cruz It’s a tempting conclusion, but I’m thinking it’s something else. I wonder if just driving a higher vehicle makes anyone feel indestructible. I think we feel a bit too separated from the road. But in an emergency situation, such as braking while turning, we soon discover that a vehicle like a ute or 4WD doesn’t handle high speed manoeuvres well, often resulting in lost control. My main concern is for some innocent family in an oncoming vehicle that has to yield road due to their miscalculation.

Did the car respond to the wallaby? Also overtaking is incredibly effortless less in a Tesla, especially in Standard Mode. Two more things, can say “standard mode” through voice control to quickly change it, and secondly pinch and zoom is available on those dash cam and sentry recordings, in the car.

    1. Cameron Smith I don’t think the car responded to this particular wallaby. I saw a few, so slowed down prior.

Yes, my Tesla could have overtaken in half the time. But the oncoming traffic made that not a safe option at this point.

The new support for zoom is very welcome.

Don't think I've met a Tesla driver that actually has a brain. It's the one's who are a can short of a six pack that seem to own/drive them. This post provides ample proof to that. You're not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Around SEQ, if any type of vehicle stands out for bad drivers, it’s consistently Utes.
    Add a P plate and it’s worse. 😏

      I totally disagree...

If you come up behind a HAVAL you know you are following an idiot...

Always at the front of a line up of traffic...

People have been asking for the speed data for a number of years, it is so good to see it has finally made it into the system. Indication that AutoPilot is active, and other details like that are also nice to see.

Yep. Blokes in utes without a second to spare, tearing up the roads so they can get home and do sweet fuck all. Cretins the lot of them.

You're doing 86 in a 100 zone? And complaining about being overtaken? Am I reading that correctly

    1. I’m not complaining about being overtaken. I overtook a few kilometres ahead, when it was safe to do so. But these utes just barrelled past, despite oncoming traffic here. Poorly judged, dangerous and unnecessarily aggressive.

Got to agree you are doing 10-15km below the speed limit, they are overtaking appropriately on broken lines. They are not driving powerful cars that can accelerate quickly so need to build momentum to pass quickly and safely.

Because frankly its far safer to be in front of you than stuck behind you.

    1. Patrick Dalton No issue with overtaking when safe. But this wasn’t safe. I hadn’t yet overtaken the car in front because of oncoming traffic. The utes were basically racing each other past a line of traffic, with oncoming cars, in vehicles that don’t handle high speed changes well. Unnecessary risk to all.

      1. Tesla Tripping no need for high speed changes when a driver is competent and smooth! You can overtake with oncoming traffic as long as you do not impede their path, do you just not overtake on the 90 mile straight because there’s a car over 100km away coming in the other direction?

Under the speed limit, got overtaken in single lane overtakes, nothing dangerous as ling as they’re back in the left before an oncoming vehicle arrives! Nothing dangerous about it when executed by a competent driver. Show the videos of the overtakes so we can see if they were dangerous or you’re being dramatic. You should slow down when being overtaken
