Valla Beach and The Big Thong

Checking out The Big Thong at Valla Beach. As you might expect, there is actually a pair of “thongs”, but different designs. I wonder if “Big Thong” actually refers to the shape of the inlet/lagoon. Enticing blue water, with a strong current in places.
We sat for a while to chill, but didn’t dare get out any snacks, given the kookaburra warnings, backed up by a keen eyed feathered hunter who followed us around.
Last night we stayed at nearby “The Bungalow”, a converted garage. Beautifully done, backing onto a nature reserve, which sometimes has kangaroos, but not today.
Fran’s Trip Tip
Thinking about what we’re needing from our accommodation.
Is it just a one night stopover? If so, I’ll probably just need a clean and comfy bed and a shower. Or, are we staying a few days, exploring the area and/or wanting some down time? Then we consider spending more, which might provide access to local town, great coffee and tourist things, a pool, or a nice spot for a bbq.
If it’s just an overnight, I usually wait as long as possible to book our accommodation on booking.com (or sometimes Air BnB or Wotif), even up to an hour before we are due somewhere. By this time many accommodation places are trying to fill leftover rooms and will discount them.
Unless you are super keen on a particular place, be flexible and opt for a little out of the way as the deals are even better a little out of the main townships.
Charging
We charged yesterday evening in nearby Uranga, at a curb side destination charger, just because it was there, while we had dinner. We don’t really plan charging, but just plug in wherever we park and there’s a charger available. We’ll visit the Big Banana next, which happens to have Tesla Superchargers.
