Heading to Australian Electric Motor Co tomorrow

NSW → QLD Road Trip 2022–23

Tomorrow we’re planning on driving from Mount Tamborine to Australian Electric Motor Co in Burleigh Heads, to look at some electric motorcycles.

Until a few weeks ago, I had technically only ever owned a motorcycle. The Tesla is the first car I’ve owned (Fran has owned previous cars). I sold off my last ICE motorcycle just before our road trip.

I’m interested to see how an electric motor bike feels on the road.

Are you getting the povo pack like our teslas or are you going for a longer range one?

    1. Brandt Campbell My previous bike was a Honda Shadow 750cc, which only had a range of about 260km.

I like Verge Motorcycles, but I don’t think they’re available in Australia yet.

  4. Very torque, as I ride a Can Am Spyder F3s, I have talked to owners and they are very pleased. I know that people doing trials are going electric and buying two batteries.
If you look up 'The Driven' podcast 'Record setting Harley Davidson Livewire electric road Trip' It is about riding. from the lowest point in Australia to the highest point using this bike. 8/7/2022 it was recorded.

  5. I thought the electric motorcycle would be a good thing.. but very low range and very high price put me off.. I can get over 550 km on a tank on my BMW

    1. Garrick Winsor there is no loud pipes. EV bikes would be great in town and short distances like GC NC and TWBA.

      1. Greg Hayden Yes, no loud pipes! But I would perhaps like some humming noise around town for pedestrians etc.

    2. Garrick Winsor I loved the range and quietness of my previous BMW K100LT motorcycle. I was hoping to test drive the new BMW electric motor bike, but it never materialised at my then local Worthington BMW dealership.

      1. Tesla Tripping I am waiting for Can Am to release an EV Spyder in 2025. They already have EV trail bikes.

  7. Argh, despite the booking system allowing me to book a test ride tomorrow, Australian Electric Motor Co has informed me that they’re not actually open on Saturday 😫. But they have generously offered to let me test ride on Sunday afternoon. So, I’m trying to rearrange some plans to suit.

  8. You could ask Gasoline Alley if you could take a Harley EV for a ride.

    1. Greg Hayden LOL. So, there a place called Gasoline Alley that sells EVs? 😉

      3. Greg Hayden It doesn't seem that they have the LiveWire listed as an option to test ride 😞:

  10. I'm interested in electric motorcycles also but think there is a way to go before one meets my desires. I put a order in on the Aptera. I think it's a good mix between a motorcycles and a car plus hopefully more safety 🤔 I thought even if I never get one at least my deposit might help get them off the ground. Seen it as a sort of crowd funding exercise lol

    1. Robert Martin I love the Aptera! Sleek, aerodynamic, solar powered, but a bit wide.

    2. Lol. At first I thought you said it's a bit weird at the end of your sentence. Yes it is quite wide but at least you can sleep in it on a long road trip 😴 I've thought of that as something new in the world of automobiles 😃

  11. I'd love to take a look at the Evoke Electric Motorcycles Australia 6061, but their website seems to be just pasted info from another country, with no link to book a test ride etc 🤔.

  12. And then there is Verge Motorcycles, which looks amazing, but I can't see any Australian distributor.

  13. I have a Surron electric bike. Very cheap, registered. makes a great base to customise to either more city or more trail. Not really highway though as range is too low. Mine is setup for trail and I get 4-5 hours in the bush. But that might be less than 100ks.
    Torque is crazy!
