Lunch at The Black Sheep, Corryong

NSW South Coast + Bright 2023

We stopped in Corryong, heading towards Mount Kosciusko. We shared lunch at The Black Sheep, with a couple of black sheep watching.

Charging

While parked anyway, we prefer to charge when we can. Unfortunately, no fast chargers in town Corryong, Victoria. We parked at the Corryong Show showground down the road from town, and plugged into one of the 5 pin sockets, available there for free. We used our 5 pin adapter with our Tesla UMC (universal mobile connector), but that’s limited to use only one phase, at 32A, 7kW. That’s quite slow. If we had a three phase connector, we could get 3 x 16 = 48A, 12kW, about 50% faster. I wish we could buy a 32 pin adapter for our type 2 cable (which is 3 phase), rather than buying yet another cable.

All this was just nerdy testing. We didn’t need the charge to make our trip. We only plugged in for an hour while we ate and walked through town. As Ludicrous Feed would say, ABC – Always Be Charging.

  1. You're actually getting 32A from your UMC. Mine will only do 24A at the moment. How'd you do it?

    1. Frankly Mydear Are you only getting 24A when connected through a 5 pin adapter to a 32A supply, like I was? Do you only get 8A (instead of 10A) when connected to a standard power point? If so, perhaps you need to update the firmware?

      1. Tesla Tripping that's what I Ve heard, but no success yet. Someone said there's an issue to be fixed by Tesla. It's a nuisance!

      2. Frankly Mydear The firmware updated on mine when I left it plugged it (to a standard power point) passed when it had finished charging to 100%. The car also had a WiFi Internet connection at the time.

      3. Tesla Tripping Thanks, that's what I've been trying to do, but can't get it to budge just yet. No wifi in garage ATM, so just trying with phone hot sync. That's probably my issue.

  2. Great trip report. Lots of helpful tips. Is your car RWD,LR or P?
I took my RWD for its first longish trip last weekend from Sydney to Wagga. I was a little unsure so charged everywhere on the way down. More comfortable with everything on the way back. I had enough charge to get from Wagga to Gundagai supercharger(no one there so topped up to 100%). Made it back home 360km @110 with 11% left.
Love this car, so easy to drive.

    1. Peter Madden Thanks for the feedback. Ours is also RWD “standard range”.

I just enter our destination on the Tesla navigation and trust its estimate for our arrival percentage charge. If I’m stopping for lunch, walk or toilets then I look for somewhere that has a chargers, since I’m parking anyway.
