Out of coffee charge, in Nabiac

Queensland Coast 2023

We left Bulahdelah fully charged, but ran out 30 minutes later in Nabiac. Ran out of coffee charge, that is – the car was fine 😉.

Charging

While Francis “recharged” with caffeine, I thought I’d try out the NRMA charger in town. We have used it in a couple of previous trips. But I figured I’d try NRMA new app and payment, since they’re moving them all from being free.

At first I thought it might be broken because the charging cable was left on the ground. I put it away, back in the machine, before electrons spilled everywhere, needing a toxic cleanup 😉. I plugged it into our Tesla, which then just said “ready to charge”, so I figured I needed to set up payment in The NRMA app. It’s not obvious in the app how to set up payment or start charging. I couldn’t get anything to work.

In the end, trying again, it just worked, without payment.

  1. You guys really get around ! Do you mind me asking how many kms you now have on your model 3 ? I had a sr+ for 3 years and sold it with 138000kms on it.

  3. I have booked into the Big 4 at Bulahdelah in January. I do know about each unit has a electric metre box and do the cabins have a 15amp powerbox in the garage, Tom? How far from town is the Big 4? What shops are in town?

That tesler model 3 must have a few k's on it now due for a trade in.

    1. Greg Hayden I don’t know about the cabin 15A option. It looked like just 10A from a distance.

It’s about 200m from the town shops, which include IGA, Oliver’s, bakery, cafe. Zoom in on the Maps app on your phone to see what else ☺️.

We’re just over 46,000 km. Tesla offered a trade in of only $43k, which is a lot less than the $64k + $5k Enhanced Autopilot we paid just over a year ago. So, we declined.

  4. I also experienced a 40min NRMA disappointment while trying to charge. They probably need a standalone app.

  5. To add payment method : click here then the hamburger top right, then account, then add payment method. Note that the chargers that remain free due to progressive roll out are not listed in the "EV chargers, find, charge, pay". The free ones remains in the general search map "near me , fuel" as "0.0c". Once they are payable they moves to the "EV chargers, find ,charge, pay section"
