Furniture-trying at Fantastic Furniture, Rockhampton

Queensland Coast 2023

After three days in and around Yeppoon, we headed back inland to Rockhampton. We parked next to the library and grabbed lunch and a coffee at The Two Professors cafe.

We found Fantastic Furniture to try out some lounge options, much to the amusement of other customers. The lounge is not for the Tesla, but for our soon to be new home in Emerald, Victoria. Not enough boot space to transport it from here, though 😉.

Next, Capricorn Caves.

Charging

Three days ago we arrived in Yeppoon, with 70% battery charge. There was nowhere in Yeppoon to charge. After a few days trips, sentry mode etc, we left Yeppoon with 20%, arriving in Rockhampton with 9%, (37km) as predicted by the Tesla’s navigation.

We turned off the air con fan for the rear, which was probably triggered by the luggage weight on the back seats.

The Tesla only shows Tesla branded chargers en-route, and warns if it can’t find any. There are no Tesla superchargers in far North Queensland, yet. But we can type in a town’s name and “charge” to navigate to other branded chargers. That took us to the Yurika/QESH/Chargefox charger next to the library, where we have been on previous trips. We had just enough time for lunch by the time the charging reached 97%.

  1. Welcome to the beef capital lol. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Yeppoon, it’s such a beautiful place. I have to agree with not knowing why anyone has installed a charger down that way yet. With apparently close to 100 Tesla’s getting around Rocky/Yeppoon and all the other Ev’s locally on the road. It’s great to see the Telsa super chargers have started being Installed in Rocky which will make the trip north a lot easier for traveler’s.

  2. Very helpful comments about non-Tesla chargers. We hadn’t come across typing your destination and “charge” in Tesla’s GPS navigator to find non-Tesla chargers.

We found Tesla GPS navigators preference for Teslas a nuisance when it once decided to take us on a longer route between Western Sydney and Dubbo via a Tesla Supercharger when there was a good non-Tesla charger available in Lithgow. It was also a nuisance in Tasmania where there is only one Tesla Supercharger in the state and in Western NSW that has no Tesla Superchargers.

    1. Hugh Sykes Hi 👋. I think this was the first time I have tried to find non Tesla chargers on the Tesla’s navigation. It seems to work well.

I have previously used PlugShare to find a charger, then send it to the iPhone Maps app, then share it with the Tesla. Oddly, the PlugShare app doesn’t facilitate sharing directly to the Tesla. That’s a lot of switching, and often results in only an approximate street address.

We turn off “Trip Planner” in the Tesla navigation settings when we don’t want it to send us to Tesla Superchargers, especially up in North Queensland, where there aren’t any.

    2. Hugh Sykes thanks for comment. Will give it a go as heading up to Noosa in a few days from Melbourne. Was using plug share also which is a nuisance. Does it prep the battery if you head off to a non Tesla charger ?

      1. I like PlugShare. It is very helpful in finding non-Telsla chargers. I also use it first to find accommodation that offers destination charging.

  3. Make sure you get photo of the big bulls balls (statues not real ones) 🤣

I reckon you've accidentally hit rear seat air conditioner because even when we have 3 adults in the back it does not automatically turn on, it's a feature you have to turn on and off each time 🤷🏼‍♀️

    1. Kylie Gilroy Oh, you’re probably right about the rear seat fan being manually switched. 🤔

    1. Ross Britton Thanks. Yeah, we were just finding one in Queensland to try out some fabrics etc, before ordering. Turns out we’ll probably order from İkea.
